Inquiry Report has been published
In October 2024, the Inspector-General initiated an inquiry into the Northern Basin Toolkit, a package of measures aimed at maximising environmental outcomes in the northern Murray-Darling Basin. This inquiry was conducted under the Inspector-General’s inquiry power pursuant to Part 10AB of the Water Act 2007 (Cth).
The final inquiry report was handed to the Australian Government Minister for Environment and Water on 14 April 2026 and publicly released on 22 April 2026.
Responses on critical material in the report
Key stakeholders were invited to comment on any critical material included in the report pursuant to section 239AG(2) of the Water Act 2007 (Cth).
Publication of Submissions
On 30 October 2024 the Inspector-General called for public submissions to inform the Inquiry. Sixteen submissions were received.
